Line Selection & Company Philosophy

Every item carried at Neena is hand-selected by the owner, Deneen Carmichael, who works full time at the store. 

When choosing merchandise, we are committed to working with companies and individuals who share our desire to use eco-friendly materials and responsible - environmentally and socially - manufacturing processes. It is a work in progress and we will constantly delve deeper, looking for ways to be more efficient, less wasteful and more aware members of our community and of the retail apparel trade.

As an entrepreneur herself, Deneen recognizes the work and dedication it takes to turn a vision into a career, especially in an industry where there the bottom-line often diminishes the importance of quality and responsibility. When researching new lines, her first question is always, "Where is the line manufactured?" and the second is "What are the materials and where are they sourced?"

We also feel a responsibility to support US-based manufacturing as much as possible.  While we cannot boast that all our lines are made in the US, we are always searching for and finding new lines made here at home by creative, inspiring and ambitious Americans.

And while it's true that, at least for now, it can be challenging to be a "conscious retailer," we don't feel like there is any other way to do business. We look at it the same way we look at healthy living: it takes a little more money, a little more time and a lot of dedication. But it's the right thing to do for our health and our future. We think it's worth the cost and that our customers will feel the same.
